What is social media? How is someone in your industry using social media?

In regards to what social media is, I would personally define it as a platform that can be used to connect with others from all around the world. It can be used in multiple different perspectives such as, business and personal. The reason why these two are best to utilize social media is because, as mentioned before it is a way to connect, and stay connected with others from around the world.

Looking at it from a business sense, this allows companies to work both country wide, and globally without limitations. This allows people to contact each other for meetings, share ideas, and overall stay in contact. Being able to do this is crucial for a global market, specifically in marketing, which leads me into how someone in my industry would use social media.

When it comes to marketing, a huge part of this is appealing to as many people as possible, in order to get across what is being marketed. One huge market in this field is global marketing. Global marketing involves planning, producing, placing, and promoting a business’ products or services in the worldwide market. There is significantly more to global marketing than simply selling goods and services internationally. It is the process of conceptualizing and subsequently conveying a final product or service globally. The company aims to reach the international marketing community. Global marketing is a specialized skill. If marketing professionals do their job properly, they can catapult their company to the next level. How this ties in with social media is, it makes it easier for a company to reach their global market, and stay in constant contact with them. The other usage was personal, which isn’t as significant as a business/company perspective. But, it follows along the same guidelines of keeping in contact with others from around the world. This could be in regards to, hobbies, cultural interests, traveling, or just about any shared interest one could have. By finding someone on social media that has similar interests are you, regardless of where they are from, it is a form of connection and socialization.
